The RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) was enacted into law as part of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970. It was designed to prosecute members of the Mafia and made it a federal crime to participate in criminal acts on behalf of a criminal organization.
