Update to the Texas Sexual Assault Statute

There has been a recently update to the way in which the state of Texas deals with criminal cases involving sexual assault. Texas statute §21.02 deals with the continuous sexual abuse of a child, should a person be criminally charged with two crimes relating to sexual assault within thirty days. To be successfully convicted, it must be proven that the defendant is over the age of 17 and that the victim(s) were under 14 years of age. If successfully convicted, the defendant could be facing criminal charges that include imprisonment for 25 to life with no possibility for parole. Another update to the law is in §22.021 that deals with Super Aggravated Sexual Assault. This refers to the aggravated sexual-related abuse of a child who is younger than six years of age. If convicted, the defendant faces criminal penalties that include 25 years to life without the possibility for parole.
